Weekend Survival Playlist: 20 songs for a Pride party

20 songs for a pride party

I’m lucky enough to say I have many things I’m proud of. Today, though, I’m proud as hell to be a gay man, and a part of the queer community. That’s worth celebrating, I’d say. So even though I’m in muggy Toronto and missing all the fun in Winnipeg, here’s our official Pride party playlist. 20 songs for having a gay old time and celebrating the fact that we come from the kind of place where our straight friends come out and celebrate Pride with us because they’re proud, too. (Not to mention, it’s the best party in town.)

Weekend Survival Playlist: 9 songs for staying single, 9 songs for a spring fling

WriteMeOutOfIt

ThisGun'sForHire

You might say that I like to have my cake and eat it too. I prefer to say I like duality, a sense of balance. A house in the city, a cabin in the woods. Late nights with wine, early mornings with coffee. Whirlwind adventures and a quiet summer at home. I’ve even sought this out in my friends – two of whom I refer to as light and shadow.

Actually, it was shadow who told me May would be a romantic month. And I feel it already. But I’m of two minds: part of me wants to jump right into a spring fling and the other says I should avoid the whole mess and pine away in my room. So this week we put together two separate playlists, one for each frame of mind. Who says we have to choose? Life will probably do that for us anyway.

Weekend Survival Playlist: 18 songs for a road trip

15 songs for a road trip

I almost can’t believe it, but it’s time for me to say goodbye to Vancouver. On Sunday morning I willfully leave paradise and drive across this beautiful country to my new home in Toronto. I probably shouldn’t talk about the goodbye part any more or I might start sobbing (again). So let’s focus on the good part: the glorious cross-Canada road trip, and all the music I’ll be belting out along the way.

Weekend Survival Playlist: 10 songs for spring cleaning

10 songs for spring cleaning

Snow or not, it’s time for spring cleaning, isn’t it? When you go dig up your summer clothes and get excited to wear them, even though you won’t be able to for another two months. And, I guess, you should probably do some actual dusting, or whatever tidy people do. To get you in the mood, we’ve put together a little spring cleaning playlist: ten fresh-sounding songs perfect for puttering around your place this weekend.

If you’re anything like me, this will involve a lot of dancing around and not a whole ton of actual cleaning. But because you’re listening to a spring cleaning playlist, you’ll feel really productive. You’re welcome.

Weekend Survival Playlist Takeover: 15 songs to cure cabin fever

15 songs to cure cabin fever

I don’t know about you but I’m about to lose my mind. My body is exhausted, my mind is overloaded and my patience is wearing thin. It’s that awkward time of year where I feel like everything should be done with but it’s all still happening. Luckily for me I am now officially on spring break – I have no idea how the rest of you are managing. The only way for me to retain interest in something once I’m over it is to give it a decent soundtrack, so I’m going to share my current playlist with you. This one is all over the map in hopes that it will keep your ADD satisfied.

Weekend Survival Playlist: 13 songs for slow-motion strutting

a swagger playlist for slow motion strutting
It’s not often that Suzy and I feel cool. In fact, most of our friendship has been a series of sharing completely embarrassing moments, where one or both of us makes a complete and utter fool of ourself. But this has been a good week. I just landed an internship at Cottage Life and scored a scholarship, which means I can afford boxed wine this week. And Suzy, that little rockstar, just finished her IPP (essentially a project-based thesis and the culmination of a year’s worth of work) and is about to start her own internship at Think Shift. So we’re celebrating our successes with a playlist full of swag.

Weekend Survival Playlist: 14 songs for feeling sexy

14 songs for feeling sexy, a poster playlistInspired by Mikky Ekko’s sexy-yet-tender “Pull Me Down,” we’ve put together a playlist for getting in the mood: even if “the mood” refers to slow grinding by yourself in front of the mirror, which I may or may not have just been doing. Here’s to a weekend full of feeling sexy, even if you’re not actually getting any sex. We still think you’re pretty doable.

Weekend Survival Playlist: 15 songs for breaking up and going out

15 songs for breaking up and going out

Breakups are the worst. And there’s not much you can do about that except to self-medicate with some tried and true home remedies. There’s red wine. There’s Rebel Wilson. And when those fail, it’s time to go out with your friends and dance to breakup anthems sung by beautiful women. Here’s to tears on the dance floor. Let’s hope it’s a look I can pull off.

Weekend Survival Playlist Takeover

An exclusive mix from Planet SHHH

Mike B. delivers again with a gorgeous mix of what I can only describe as fresh, sincere, slightly melancholic indie electropop. Whatever it is, it’s amazing and worth a listen or two. (I’ve got it on repeat all day.)

Weekend Survival Playlist: 16 Songs For The Hopelessly Romantic

16 songs for the hopelessly romantic

There are many things I believe about love. I believe there is someone out there for everyone, that heartbreak is a pain like no other, that I deserve flowers every day of the year, and that we should seize any opportunity to celebrate. For those of you planning a romantic evening at home, here is your soundtrack. This playlist is very close to my heart – every song came from a playlist I’ve been curating for the last 7 years. It includes an ode to forbidden love, a confession of lust, my future wedding song, and a lullaby that will melt even the most jaded heart. Enjoy. And happy Valentine’s Day.

Weekend Survival Playlist: 14 Songs For Winding Down

14 songs for winding down
